There are hundreds of registered student organizations on the UCLA campus. As we began to research efforts toward increasing diversity on campus, the PluralNet team knew
it would be crucial to interview both administration and students. From the start, a survey of the wide range of student opinion was not our primary purpose. The PluralNet team felt it was important to speak
with groups that had been publicly involved in the campus debate regarding Proposition 209, affirmative action and student diversity. The six groups the team spoke to are by no means a representative sample of
student groups at UCLA, nor even of student groups focused on diversity issues. Rather, the six groups address a small sampling of the issues being raised in light of the recent drop in numbers of historically
underrepresented students being admitted to UCLA (after the implementation of Proposition 209). Students are accomplishing many things. . .
