METHODS
Three separate surveys were developed and administered to identify needs and issues that relate to archival education in Pacific Rim communities. One survey was distributed to faculty members in Archival Studies and related areas such as Museum Studies, Library Science, and Cultural Studies within the Pacific Rim area. The second one was sent to professionals from archival and other cultural and government repositories who are members of the International Council on Archives Pacific Regional Branch (PARBICA) and/or East Asian Regional Branch (EASTICA) regional sections and colleagues whom they recommend in this and ancillary fields. The third survey was distributed to scholars (e.g. anthropologists, historians, archaeologists, etc.), community elders, military veterans, cultural leaders, or memory keepers, etc., who are experts on or familiar with local history and cultural practices, and who can provide valuable suggestions on how local culture should be documented and preserved. The findings of the three surveys will be discussed at research workshops comprised of educators and students, archival professionals, and community stakeholders on June 1st and 2nd.
In addition to English, each questionnaire was translated into Chinese and Spanish to facilitate the answering of the surveys by respondents in China and Spanish-speaking countries and communities.
