Vietnam presents many transportation challenges for the traveler. But with a bit of good humor and some planning, you can see the country and have an affordable adventure.


There are 48 airports in Vietnam, though 12 of these have unpaved runways.


International flights usually arrive in Hanoi.

Yes, it's one of the paved ones.


Vietnam is a long, thin country that runs north-south and spans 325,000 square kilometers. The most efficient way to see it all is by air.

But if someone tries to sell you a seat on this plane, don't buy it.
