A
celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Communist
Party of Vietnam (CPV) is planned in 2000. According to an announcement given
by state officials, activities to mark the event will highlight the role of
the CPV, raise awareness of the party and of the relationship between the party,
the people and the nation, praise the pride of the party's glorious tradition,
and increase the trust in the party's leadership in national renovation and
the party-strengthening movement. These activities to celebrate the party anniversary
will be combined with the traditional celebration of the Lunar New Year on February
5th. Other celebrations in 2000 will mark the 110th birthday of President Ho
Chi Minh on May 19th, the 25th anniversary of victory over the United States
on April 30th, the 55th anniversary of the August Revolution on August 19th,
