It makes me shiver to think about my ignorance at the time the revolution triumphed; it amazes me. I've gained a lot of experience, knowledge, and maturity. I'm sure of this. I began by saying that we have freed ourselves of subjectivism and touchiness. If you ask me if we've improved, I would say, "Yes, I think so. We've improved in every way, including the human aspect." From Castro, Fidel. Fidel Castro: Nothing Can Stop the Course of History. Interview by Jeffrey M. Elliot and Mervyn M. Dymally. New York: Pathfinder Press, 1986.
The following is a from a speech Castro gave to the 2nd Congress of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution on October 24, 1981.
If we must make the sacrifices of the first years of the Revolution we will do the same and more! (APPLAUSE)
If we must make the sacrifices of the war of liberation we will do the same and more! (APPLAUSE)
If we must make the sacrifices of our mambi fighters we will do the same and more! (APPLAUSE)
We serve notice on the imperialists that the Cuban people will live with their Revolution or every last man and woman will die along with it
