Peru MOA2 Assignment
Introduction to MOA2 Scanning Project -- You will process a set
of Special Collections Material, including scanning a roll of photographs,
scanning printed material and other objects (realia), and creating structural
and administrative metadata for the material. We will create Master
Images that we will store offline, and derivatives and thumbnails which
we will put into our online digital collection.
-
By the end of April you must:
-
physically process your film roll, writing a unique accession number in
pencil on the back of each photographic print (based on the roll number
and negative frame number). Rolls are numbered P01-, P02-, P03-,
...
-
scan each photographic print at 600 dpi, then save this Master Image in
uncompressed TIFF format in the class workspace (this will take a lot of
time, and you should sign up for use of the Lab scanners in blocks of no
more than 2 hours at a time)
-
You can use either the Multimedia 3100 or the Intel4 workstation in the
Lab and the scanner hooked up to it. Important: make sure
you note which scanner you used for which photo; you'll need this information
for your administrative metadata.
-
You will be given an individual workspace in which you can save these large
files without exceeding your disk quota. Once we get your names and
assign you a space, you will follow
these directions to access your workspace. Here is the distribution
of students showing what machines have been assigned to you:
