Introduction

The Education Studies Minor is meant for those interested in learning more about many professional research issues confronting educators. Our mission is to:

Understanding the complex interactions between the legal, social, political and economic forces which influence and shape educational policies in America.

Taking an introductory sequence of courses as a possible prelude to a career in education

Gaining an understanding of current educational practices in order to become better consumers of educational services as future parents, taxpayers, and citizens .

Requirements

ESM RESTRICTION will be lifted for Winter 2010 enrollment:
November 25, 2009 at 9:00 AM


 To gain admission to the Education Studies Minor (ESM), students must apply to the program. Applications will be accepted at the beginning of every quarter (Fall, Winter, and Spring) for admission into the following quarter.

To be considered for admittance, students must:

Have at least Sophomore standing at UCLA with a minimum C+ (2.30) cumulative GPA.

Complete a minimum of TWO approved ESM courses prior to applying for the Education minor; one of which must be a core (Transfer students need to have completed ONE ESM course and ONE in progress at the time of application submission)

Submit a completed ESM applicaton for admission AND an unofficial transcript or DPR to the Office of Student Services (1009 Moore Hall) by the deadline date.

A maximum of ONE course from EDUC 80 and 92 A-F may be used for elective credit.

- Four courses from the CORE area (EDUC 194 along with 182/183 must be completed to be granted the minor)
- Three courses from the ELECTIVE area

Enroll in Courses

Given the popularity of ESM courses, an enforced restriction has been placed on CORE courses until the ESM lift date. After this date, all students eligible to enroll can do so in those courses with available space.

ESM RESTRICTION will be lifted for Winter 2010 enrollment:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Students enrolled in courses with a (*) must be concurrently enrolled in the designated seminar & or field component/lab.

2. Students enrolled in courses with a (**) are limited to one of these courses being applied to their ESM.

3. Courses CANNOT be repeated for credit.
