MADRAS Guidelines Introduction This document will provide users of the Metadata and Archival Description Registry and Analysis System (MADRAS) with detailed information on how to use the system to enter new metadata schemas into the registry, evaluate existing schemas, and submit schemas for analysis and validation by InterPARES 2 (IP2) researchers. Its users will include IP2 researchers and other stakeholders in the record-keeping and archival communities and the public at large. What is MADRAS ? MADRAS is a web-based tool for developing, registering, and evaluating record-keeping related metadata schemas and archival description standards. It was developed by researchers on the Descriptive Cross-Domain Team of the International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems 2 (InterPARES 2) project. MADRAS was built to act as a data collection and analysis tool for the comparison and study of descriptive schemas. It can also be used to register, select, and compare metadata schemas. An additional feature of MADRAS allows users to submit schemas for analysis by IP2 researchers. During the analysis process, schemas are measured against several standards, including the IP Benchmark, IP Baseline, ISO 23081 and the Record-Keeping Metadata Standard for Commonwealth Agencies (RKMS). The analysis will measure how the schema meets record-keeping requirements and provide recommendations to help the schema meet such requirements. Capabilities of MADRAS
Getting Started Although anybody can browse the registered schemas in MADRAS, a login and password is necessary to register new schemas and to edit existing schemas. If you would like to recommend a schema for analysis without getting a login and password, please submit your request using the Feedback form. |
