Housed within the Division of Higher Education and Organizational Change, the M.Ed. in Student Affairs (SA) program is focused on preparing student affairs professionals committed to and capable of advancing a social justice mission within student affairs organizations and higher education institutions. The program’s curricular and experiential learning opportunities are guided by the principles and practices of equity, diversity, social change, and transformative educational experiences. In addition, the program’s scholar–practitioner framework emphases active student engagement in educational opportunities focused on developing student affairs practitioners who not only possess essential professional competencies (e.g., student advising, educational program design, etc.), but also demonstrate the ability to understand and apply student affairs research. Students graduate from this program familiar with the research, ethics, and trends in the field of student affairs and prepared to work as transformative student affairs practitioners in a variety of higher education settings (e.g., community colleges, public and private four-year institutions) and student affairs functional areas (e.g., academic advising, residential life, student activities).
