The Sudikoff Family Institute For Education & New Media:
Creating a Public Forum for Education Issues
In June of 2002, UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) announced the formation of The Sudikoff Family Institute for Education & New Media. Founded by philanthropists Jeffrey and Joyce Sudikoff, The Sudikoff Family Institute for Education & New Media creates a public forum for the research and scholarship of the GSE&IS. The Sudikoff Family Institute awards a fellowship each year to an individual faculty member of the GSE&IS who serves as a public intellectual on issues related to education and information studies, and the application of new media technologies within those realms.
By making the work of selected GSE&IS faculty available to the public through lectures, interviews, and the media, The Sudikoff Family Institute underwrites a dialogue between GSE&IS scholars and the public on education, new media, information studies, and learning-related issues. Long-term the Sudikoff Family Institute will establish a broad network of media channels that support a flow of information and expertise between GSE&IS faculty and the public, and will promote a climate of activism for the advancement of quality education and learning.
Information Studies Professor Leah A. Lievrouw serves as the 2006 - 07 Fellow for the Sudikoff Family Institute.
UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, the improvement of professional practice, and service to the education and information professions. The school develops future generations of scholars, teachers, information professionals, and institutional leaders.
