Frederick Erickson, Director Frederick Erickson, Director
Frederick Erickson is Director of CONNECT and the George F. Kneller Professor of Anthropology of Education in the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies. An internationally known educational anthropologist, Erickson has studied social interaction as a learning environment. His approach identifies the workings of ethnicity, race, class, gender, language, and culture in formal and informal educational processes. He has been an innovator in the video-based analysis of face-to-face interaction and in the development of practitioner research and reflection as a means of continuing professional education for elementary school teachers and administrators.
Lilia Monzo, Asst. Director and Postdoctoral Fellow Lilia Monzó, Assistant Director and Postdoctoral Fellow
Lilia Monzó is Assistant Director of CONNECT and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies. Lilia recently received her doctorate in Language, Literacy, and Learning from the University of Southern California School of Education. Lilia draws on sociocultural and critical theories of learning and schooling to study learning and development among bilingual, non-dominant group children at home and at school. Her recent research is a two-year ethnography of immigrant Latino children and families in the process of negotiating practices and ideologies brought home from school.
Laura Weishaupt, Director of Communications Laura Weishaupt, Director of Communications
Laura Weishaupt is the Director of Communications for CONNECT and UES. She works collaboratively with teachers, researchers, parents, and staff to develop print and multimedia publications for research and outreach programs. She worked as a writer, editor, and project manager on the prototype for EarlyLiteracyInstitute.org, a professional development resource for educators focusing on literacy. Laura also is the editor of CONNECTIONS, the newsletter for the research center.

Becky Escamilla is the Webmaster for CONNECT and UES. Becky's professional interests are in education technology, database driven applications programming, music and video authoring.
