Paola Zitlali Morales is a doctoral student in her second year of the Urban Schooling
program at the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS). Her research interests
include education policy, language ideologies, bilingual education, and assessment of English language learners.
She is contributing to research involving the LTL program and language issues. Her individual project investigates
a case study of three children in the Learning in Two Languages program at UES. She is examining the opportunities for
Spanish-dominant students to “access the floor” or gain opportunities to speak during classroom instruction
and whether these opportunities build and extend their linguistic, sociocultural, and content knowledge. Specifically, Zitlali
is conducting observations in these children’s classroom, interviewing their teacher, and examining their language and
literacy skills through multiple measures, including writing samples and standardized test scores. |
