This publication summarizes the results of the sixth in a series of triennial Faculty Surveys initiated at HERI in 1989. Based on responses from almost 41,000 full-time undergraduate faculty at 421 universities, four-year colleges, and two-year colleges, "The American College Teacher" presents results broken out by gender and institutional type, as well discussing trends in faculty characteristics, pedagogical techniques, goals and values over the last fifteen years.
