Using multivariate analyses of several national longitudinal databases, state policy effects on private higher education institutions were assessed. State student aid increases were associated with overall enrollment increases in less-selective private colleges, increased enrollments of low- and middle-income students, and decreased tuition charges in the more selective colleges.
