Financial Concerns of First-Year College Students Have Wide Impact

The results of the 2009 CIRP Freshman Survey illustrate that students entering four-year colleges and universities across the United States have been greatly impacted by the economic downturn. They are more likely to be placing an increased reliance on loans. They placed more importance on financial issues when choosing which college to attend. They put a great emphasis on getting good jobs after graduation and in being financially well off, yet they are also turning away from business majors and potential business careers.
paying for college At the same time we see record numbers of students who expect that they will be involved in volunteering and community services while in college. The Freshman Survey shows a link between being a volunteer and personal and social responsibility.

These findings, and many more, are highlighted in our newly-designed report. In addition to the monograph, our website has several other ways to disseminate the results and facilitate discussions on campus: via a webcast, a PowerPoint presentation, a short research brief in PDF form, and a press release. more >>
