At the November, 1995 annual meeting of the Association for the Study of Higher Education, /b>Sylvia Hurtado (Ph.D., Higher Education and Organizational Change, 1990) received the Early Career Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements as a scholar. Hurtado is an assistant professor at University of MichiganÕs School of Education.
Yujing Ni (Ph.D., Psychological Studies in Education, 1994) joined the faculty of the Department of Education Psychology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. While at UCLA, Ni worked extensively on the Center for the Study of EvaluationÕs (CSE) content assessment project.
David Niemi (Ph.D., Psychological Studies in Education, 1994) accepted a position last fall as assistant professor in the Department of Education at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He teaches courses in educational psychology and works with the Missouri State Department of Education in the development and implementation of their statewide assessment system. He continues his association with GSE&IS and CSE through the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST).

Another CSE alumnus, John Novak (Ph.D., Psychological Studies in Education, 1993), accepted an adjunct faculty position jointly in the mathematics and education departments at the University of Southern California. He currently is developing and implementing a new mathematics curriculum for elementary education teacher candidates.
Lynn Winters (Ph.D., Learning and Instruction, 1979) was named the Assistant Superintendent for Research, Planning and Evaluation for the Long Beach Unified School District. As a student, Winters was a research assistant for the CSE working in bilingual education. She returned to CSE in 1994 as a project director for the Social Studies-History Assessment Development Laboratory.
