Dear UCLA Education Alumni & Friends,
It seems hard to believe that UCLA has been preparing teachers for our nationÕs schools for over 100 years. In this span, weÕve seen many changes in both the education community and at the graduate school. As we race toward the 21st century, we recognize that progress and change go hand in hand. The latest change at the School is the creation of the UCLA Education Alumni Association (UCLA EAA) -- an umbrella organization that will unite the UCLA education community in a unique way.
Many of us were active in former support organizations for the School, and have been eager to reconnect with the program. I am pleased to report that after several months of alumni focus groups, planning and organizing, the re-creation of an active education alumni support organization is today a reality.
I am truly honored that Dean Ted Mitchell has asked that I serve as president of the UCLA Education Alumni Association. This non-dues-paying organization will replace all previous support groups for the School, and welcomes all education graduates from UCLA as automatic members. This is an organization to which we can all afford to belong. The UCLA EAA is also open to all other friends and members of the education community who care about the work of the graduate school and the mission of educating tomorrow's leaders.
Several special events and programs are currently being planned for this year. As members of the UCLA EAA, some of your many opportunities for involvement will include professional development, networking, and student interaction. We are excited about the future and hope you will take advantage of these opportunities to reconnect with the School.
If you are interested in receiving additional information, or would like to help with organizational planning, please call the GSE&IS Office of Development & Alumni Affairs at (310) 206-0375 or Email UCLAEAA@gseis.ucla.edu.
I looking forward to meeting you in the near future.
Sincerely,
Bud Jacobs (M.A. '77)
President
UCLA Education Alumni Association
