John N. Hawkins is Professor of Social Sciences and Comparative Education
in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the
University of California, Los Angeles. He is also the Chair of the
Division of Social Sciences and Comparative Education, Editor of The
Comparative Education Review, published by the University of Chicago
Press, and Director of the Center
for International and Development Education (CIDE).
For fourteen years he served as Dean of International
Studies and Overseas Programs at UCLA (ISOP). He is the author
or editor of 15 books on educational policy and planning in the Asia/Pacific
region and over 70 articles and chapters.
Dr. Hawkins received his B.A. with Honors in Asian Studies at the
University of Hawaii, his M.A. in East Asian Studies at the University
of British Columbia, and his Ph.D. in East Asian Studies and Comparative
Education from Vanderbilt University, George Peabody College. He joined
the faculty at UCLA in 1973.
