Introduction

You probably use the Internet every day, sending email, downloading files, viewing web sites. The Internet is basically just a pipe that information flows through. In this workshop you'll look at one type of information, web pages.

This workshop will introduce you to the web and preparing documents to be viewed on the web. It will cover using text editors to create basic HTML documents, HTML conversion using standard office applications, web page creation with specialized web creation software, and what to do with your pages once you've created them.

To participate in this workshop you need:

  • A computer
  • A text editor (Mac: SimpleText, Windows: Note Pad)
  • A web browser (Netscape Navigator/Communicator, MS Internet Explorer, iCab, etc.)
  • An office software package (MS Word, Apple Works, etc.)
  • A specialized web creation package (Dreamweaver, Front Page, Home Page, Page Mill, GoLive, etc.)
  • An FTP program (Mac: Fetch, Windows: WS_FTP)
  • An internet connection
  • The example files (Download: MAC | WIN)

If you don't have one or more of these programs installed on your computer, much of it can be downloaded for free, at least for a limited demonstration period. Check the vendor's web site for more information, or perform a search on a site such as Download.com.
