Addressing the Mistreatment of LGBT Students in the U.S. Public and Private Schools

 

 

The persistent mistreatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students in the U.S. public and private schools is one of the major unresolved issues facing educators today.  This Web site is designed to provide UCLA students (and other interested parties) who are seeking to identify strategies for the resolution of this problem with basic information and foundational resources at the intersection of law and educational policy.

This site is maintained by Stuart Biegel, who welcomes your correspondence (biegel@ucla.edu).  Biegel is a member of the faculty at both the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and the UCLA School of Law, where he teaches a range of courses in the areas of law and education.  He has also served as Director of Teacher Education at UCLA, and as Special Counsel for the California Department of Education.  Biegel’s current work in progress includes a book entitled THE RIGHT TO BE OUT,  which will be published by Stanford University Press (2007).
