Most of my contributions to Blogleft go into the daily commentary upon the day's events. In this section of Blogleft, however, are stored my more permanent, substantive writings. Fortress America is dedicated the origin and historical development of the "Garrison State" and related concepts in the United States. Manifest Destiny looks at evidence relating to origin and growth of this hegemonic concept, which even precedes America's founding, and traces how the concept developed beyond, including the Monroe doctrine, and world hegemony. Bush's Religious Language updates an earlier posting on Blogleft. This piece had its beginnings from several sources, but primarily what I think is the inherent racism of major parts of the the Republican party, a racism cloaked in fundamentalist Christain piety.
