Senate Leader Assails Clarke, Asks to See Past Testimony
Bill Frist joins rabid Republican attack dogs and attacks Richard Clarke for apologizing to 9/11 victims and threatens him with perjury since he allegedly gave a more positive analysis of Bush administration efforts on terrorism in earlier testimony [like when he was a member of the administration and was dutifully spinning to gloss their defects?! sorry folks but that's what members of administrations do and sometimes they change their minds and change sides]

Ex-Aide's Book Corners Market in Capital Buzz
the Richard Clarke book is a literary phenomenon, as well as political bombshell. The book is a great read, full of insider comments on many topics from the Reagan administration to the present; while Clarke is a tremendous and appreciated Bush critic he's also a hardline militarist, an uncritical defender and admirer of Israel, and clever bureaucratic player. His testimony at the 9/11 hearings was a political masterpiece but he is getting the full smear and slam treatment from the right. Those critics who are citing his earlier proBush reports as evidence of inconsistency or opportunism should be told that this is exactly the sort of positive spin that political bureaucrats do and that he only turned on Bush when he saw what a disaster the Bush Gang Iraq intervention was and how it undermined the war on terrorism by creating more enemies for the US, alienating and isolating the US from allies, and creating a political quagmire.

Here's Why Condi Rice Won't Testify Under Oath Before the 9/11 Commission - A BuzzFlash Editorial
Condi won't testify because her failure to engage al Qaeda and terrorism before 9/11 is criminal negligance; so far, the Hearings are concerned with why the Bush and Clinton administrations were so lax in taking out bin Laden and his top al Qaeda leadership; the real questions concern why 9/11 happened here in the States and who was responsible [obviously someone on the Bush watch]

Israel targets entire Hamas leadership; Army chief suggests Arafat could be assassinated
the insane Israeli thugs have declared war on Hamas and Palestinian leadership plunging Middle East into war; this is exactly what Likud and their Bush neocon allies like Perle and Wolfowitz want: to plunge the Middle East into chaos and exterminate all "evil" (i.e. enemies of Israel; this was major incentive for the Iraq intervention of Bush neocons [while Cheney wanted the oil and contracts for Halliburton; Rumsfeld wanted military glory and to test his military policies and Bush is such a weird mess of unhinged psyche that there is no telling what his motivations were {Oedipal Tex proving himself to his father; defeating Evil so he could purge himself of his own sins, getting re-elected, whatever}]

Hamas calls for revenge and its confirmed that Bush's buddy Sharon personally managed the assassination of the aged and crippled cleric [could Sharon have done this without Bush's prior assent? the Bush Gang was all over the place today justifying the murder, then regretting it and sending out Condi Rice to remind everyone how bad Hamas is; its clear that Bush policy once again has produced a potential disaster in the Middle East that could blowback here and there

is anyone noticing that under the Bush presidency, the entire world is spinning out of control as violence and mayhem rule in more and more dangerous quarters of the world? has anyone noticed that Bush's theft of an election and subversion of democracy has been replicated in Haiti and probably Taiwan and that many countries like Israel are more and more carrying out dangerous and potentially destabilizing preemptive strikes? until Bush is retired in Crawford no one will be safe anywhere
washingtonpost.com: Hamas Leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin Killed in Gaza
See the article "Thousands mourn and pledge revenge" and revenge there will be as the cycle of violence in the Middle East intensifies and spins out of control [no doubt Bush is treasuring his volume of "Revelations" these [last?] days]:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/22/international/middleeast/22CND-MIDE.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&position=
Bush's insane tilt toward Israel has obviously unleashed Sharon and endangered both Israelis and Americans as the following excerpt from an AP story indicates:
"In a statement faxed to The Associated Press, Hamas said: "The Zionists didn't carry out their operation without getting the consent of the terrorist American Administration, and it must take responsibility for this crime.
"All the Muslims of the world will be honored to join in on the retaliation for this crime."
The threat against the US would represent a change of tactics for the militant group, which has always said its fight was with Israel and not with the US."

Debate Grows Over Bush's Handling of Terror Threat
the debate is on over Bush's failures over 9/11 and weak national security policies; so far, Richard Clarke has had much more bite on this then Kerry so hopefully this will be a major issue that will be sharply articulated in the press; last night on US TV, CBC, which broke the Clarke story via 60 Minutes, presented Clarke sympathetically while a grim NBC reporter privileged the unspeakable slime Stephen Hadley, Condi Rice's mediocre deputy, was privileged though he was caught lying about Clarke a couple of times on CBS; this issue should focus attention for sometime as the 9/11 hearings unfold; Clarke is Bush's best and most serious critic so far and everyone should buy and read and discuss and circulate his book; here's a very weak NYT story
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/22/politics/trail/22TRAIL-CLARKE.html?hp
Matt Drudge is highlighting deadline: "CBSNEWS PUSHED BOOK IT OWNS; '60 MINUTES' DID NOT REVEAL PARENT COMPANY'S FINANCIAL STAKE IN CLARKE PROJECT!" so right will fiercely go after CBS and Clarke [CBS has become more and more strongly antiBush, or apparently so in the stories they have been highlighting [of course any fair and balanced coverage of Bush that told the truth would be overwhelmingly antiBush, the worse president on record]

CBSNews.com: Did Bush Press For Iraq-9/11 Link?
it appears that CBS' 60 MINUTES will have a blockbuster show tonight with former top US terrorism official and expert Richard Clarke claiming that Bush himself pushed the Saddam/911 connection from the beginning and was eager to go to war against Iraq. It is revealing that Clarke presents Bush as arrogant, nasty, and pushy, an accurate description rarely coming out from top inside officials. It is also significant that this week Clarke has been quoted as saying that Bush has been "terrible" in the war on terror, failing to help build a coalition, alienating allies, and creating new enemies. Clarke also makes it clear, confirming the view of several former Clinton administration officials, that the Bush administration did not take terrorism seriously and enabled the 9/11 attacks to take place through incompetence and complacency. Hopefully, his views and forthcoming book will get the attention that they deserve

Rightwing Ideologues like David Brooks are losing it; Krugman gets it right
conservative NYT columnist David Brooks' wayoff editorial on Spain shows how conservative ideologues are losing their minds. Brooks, and many, many other conservatives writing on the Internet, see the Spanish election as a sad day for civilization and capitulation to terrorism. In fact, it shows political intelligence and how the people of Spain are fed up with a lying government, a flawed and failing war on terror and particularly the lack of intelligent leadership by the Bush administration. 80% of the people of Spain rightly opposed the Iraq invasion which deflected attention and resources from fighting terrorism, helped recruit new terrorists, and created a bloody mess in Iraq. The people of Spain were clear that Bush is the world's worst leader and that an alliance with him is a recipe for disaster (as indeed happened). And they were furious that the conservative govt blamed the Madrid 3/11 attacks on ETA rather than al Qaeda, repudiating a lying government (which also lied on Iraq as well as poodling for Bush). This is a potentially positive development that could lead to a Europe awake and united with a multilateral US govt to fight terrorism and other problems in the world. Of course, it requires regime change in the US but even here a positive end is in sight. Let the conservative whiners and liars crawl back into their holes; here is Brooks' rant:

Support for Bush Falls On Economy and Iraq (washingtonpost.com)
Bush is going down on economy and Iraq: "President Bush, the target of months of criticism during the Democratic primary season, has seen public support fall to the lowest level of his presidency for his performance on the economy and the situation in Iraq, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll has found.
A majority of Americans -- 57 percent -- say they want their next president to steer the country away from the course set by Bush, according to the survey. Bush's standing hit new lows in crucial areas such as the economy (39 percent support him), Iraq (46 percent) and the budget deficit (30 percent). "

Bush Campaign Defends Use of 9/11 in TV Ads
Bush thinks that 9/11 is his trump card for re-election, that he just has to do a mantra of 9/11-Great Leader and people will snap into bowing before him and voting for him; this is a dangerous strategy for Bush (although I probably shouldn't inform him): already victims of 9/11, fireman and policemen and others involved in the event are extremely angry with Bush exploiting the tragedy for political ads. Moreover, the more 9/11 is investigated the more responsibility for it happening will rest on the Bush administration and one can easily also develop sharp critiques of the inept and corrupt ways the Bush gang responded to it as a real liability for Bush's re-election

washingtonpost.com: Saboteur Attacks Iraqi Phone Center
saboteurs destroy the new phone service in Iraq, international calls are cut off: its clear, as long as the US is the occupying force, there is going to be repeated disaster; the US should get out at once and bring in a UN force [though Bush could never admit he was totally wrong and allow the UN to solve the problem, one of the reasons we need a regime change in the US before Iraq, the problems of the Middle East or any of the thousands of problems that Bush aggravated or caused are dealt with]

Independent NewsIn Karbala and Baghdad, they mourned the dead. Throughout Iraq, they blamed the US
the US receives blame for the horrible carnage at the Shiite religious ceremonies: It's true, without the disastrous Bush-Blair invasion, there wouldn't have been all the tragic killings, well over 10,000 Iraqis have died so that Bush can smirk and swagger

Aristide kidnapped?- Administration Denies Aristide Kidnapped
here's a report that Aristide was kidnapped
http://www.democracynow.org/
here's another story that Aristide was kidnapped taking his lawyer and Calif Rep Maxine Waters as the source
http://www.local10.com/news/2886191/detail.html
it seems that many assume Aristide was kidnapped or overthrown by the US leading to vehement dismissals by Bush administration officials, as in the story below; this provides evidence that much of the world deeply mistrusts the Bush administration (as they should) and imputes malignant motives to everything they do or whatever they have their fingers in: this is also a rational response and shows how the Bush gang cannot represent US interests because they are so corrupt and mistrusted globally [and want to rule the world as Hegemon, an untenable position in a multipolar world]

Aristide Raised Haiti's Hopes, Then Shattered Them
I have yet to read a good analysis of what went wrong in Haiti; both Kerry and Edwards yesterday criticized Bush administration inaction for not dealing with the crisis earlier, but did the Bush gang actually push the situation to get rid of Aristide, earlier seen as a leftist [see the article below]; But what else? Was Aristide corrupt as is being alleged in the media? was he highly ineffective, as the story below indicates? or is this just another example of how the Bush administration, through action or inaction, brutally forces situation to promote their shady interests?
