Top Five Degrees and Certificates Awarded

In 1996-97, community colleges awarded 456,508 Associate Degrees and 166,776 certificates. Females received 61.8 percent of the degrees and 56.7 percent of the certificates. The mean annual earnings in 1997 of people with some college or an Associate Degree was $26,235, compared with $22,985 for high school graduates and $40,478 for those with baccalaureate degrees. The top five fields for Associate Degrees and certificates awarded in 1996-97 are as follows.
