The Application Deadline for the 2008-2009 academic
year is February 1st, 2008. All materials are due on this date.
The University will require that you apply using
its on-line system. The on-line system for the 2008-2009 application year
will be available late November 2007.
Step 1: Go to the Graduate Division
website at www.gdnet.ucla.edu
and bookmark the page.
Step 2: Set up an account using a valid
e-mail account and password. Write down your password and e-mail combination
as you will need them again to check the status of your application
and the decision of the admissions staff.
Step 3: Read through all of the directions
at the Grad Division site. Please note that some items are optional
for ELP applicants (such as the Statement of Purpose).
Step 4: Fill out the required sections
of the general UCLA application. Once all required sections are complete,
a link will appear to the "supplementary application." This section
of the application is for the program and it is required.
Step 5: Complete the ELP "supplementary
application" portion. Although some of the information is also required
on the University application it is extremely important that it is reentered
in the second portion. Remember to use the "save and continue" button,
not the menu links to navigate the sections.
Step 6: Upon completing the two portions
of the on-line application, you will attempt to submit the application
information to the University server. However, you will first be required
to select a payment option. If you choose to pay with a credit card
you will need to submit your card information immediately. If you pay
with a check, you will need to follow the instructions provided on-line.
For the least number of complications, payment by credit card is recommended.
Check payments must clear before an application is considered to be
officially submitted.
Step 7: Use the status menu to review,
and print, the progress of your application.
When the applicant uses the UCLA code (4837), Educational
Testing Services sends scores immediately. Therefore, the February 1st
deadline for test taking is enforced. We allow a short grace period for
scores arriving electronically from ETS. Please note that ELP now requires
the writing portion of the GRE newer test scores.
- For applicants who haven't taken the GRE
yet, or would like to retake the GRE:
- visit www.gre.org
to view options for taking the GRE. New computer options allow for
more flexibility with dates and personal convenience.
- For applicants who've taken the GRE:
- if ETS is sending your score, it should be
sent to:
- UCLA/GSE&IS
Office for Student Services
1009 Moore Hall 951521
Los Angeles, CA 90095-1521
- if you are sending your GRE Score, please
send an original copy to the ELP Office.
If you would like your original returned to you, include a self-addressed,
stamped envelope and a note requesting that it be returned. You
may also bring your original copy into our office to be approved
and photocopied.
- Transcripts must be submitted for each institution attended.
- Two copies are required for each institution.
Three official letters of recommendation are required,
with at least one from an employer. Attached to each letter of recommendation
should be the Official
ELP letter of recommendation form, completed by the writer of the
letter.
Letters and forms must arrive by February 1st. They
may be sent by the writer, or be included in the applicant's packet. In
either case, the writer must place the letter and the form in a sealed
envelope and sign their name across the envelope's flap.
A prompt/question is provided in the ELP/Supplementary
Application portion of the on-line application, or click
here.
Answers to this prompt should be 2-4 pages in length,
typed, and sent as hardcopy to the ELP office.
A current resume, or curriculum vitae, is required
for application consideration. Send a hard copy to the ELP
office.
During the month of February, after the application
deadline has passed, all applicants are asked to attend a small group
meeting. Small group meetings are similar to interviews allowing faculty
to observe applicants in a group setting similar to a cohort classroom.
You will select a preferred date to attend a small group meeting on the
on-line application. After February 1st, you will receive a confirmation
via e-mail providing the meeting details. All applicants are expected
to attend a session. Please contact the ELP office if you are unable to attend.
If you have applied to the Educational Leadership
Program in past three years, you may still have materials on file. Please
contact the office to see if your materials are still on file.
To re-apply:
- complete the on-line application with the University
and send payment.
- send transcripts for any additional degrees
earned since your last application was submitted
- send three new letters of recommendation (letters can be from same recommenders)
- write a new essay
