When do students
attend class?
Students attend class one evening per week (6 to 10 p.m.) and several Saturdays per month. Saturday classes, which only occur year one and two, are held from 9 a.m. -
12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. or 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with a break for lunch.
Where do students attend class?
Classes are in Moore Hall on the UCLA campus.
When is the ELP Year One retreat?
The entering cohort has a three-day in residence retreat on the UCLA
campus at the end of August.
Will I have courses in the summer?
No, however, during the first year classes begin at the end of August.
Between year one and year two, you will meet with your dissertation group.
Can I start the program in January?
No, only one cohort is admitted annually and they begin courses together
during the fall quarter.
Can I do the program if I don't have an administrative credential?
Yes, many students in the program do not have an administrative
credential.
What do I need to have to be able to
do the Tier II Professional Administrative Services Credential while
in the Program?
You must already have the Tier I Preliminary Administrative Services
Credential and must be employed by a school district in an administrative
position that the Commission on Teacher Credentialing recognizes
as an administrative post. You must complete the K - 12 Administrators'
Form that is part of the application process.
How much does the Program cost and what opportunities are there for financial aid?
The most recently admitted cohort is currently paying $17,300 per
year for tuition. Tuition is paid in three installments (August/September,
January, and March). Tuition includes the retreat, all classes, and course readers. There are some additional costs for books.
Many students obtain need-based and non-need based
government student loans. Students are also informed of other scholarship opportunities as they arise. Tuition is subject to change.
How many courses do students take?
Each cohort completes a set of 20 courses together during their
three years in the Educational Leadership Program. This includes
a series of courses during Year Two and Three which supports students work
on their practice-oriented doctoral dissertation.
Can I take electives?
Electives are not required but students may enroll in elective courses offered at UCLA.
Can I get credit for coursework that
I have completed at other universities?
ELP coursework is specifically designed for the students in the
Program. No waiver credit is given.
Do I specialize in an area of Education?
You will be doing a set of courses that focus on leadership and
knowledge about many aspects of kindergarten through postsecondary
education. You will look at education from a variety of perspectives
that include technology, politics, economics, social, culture, organizational
change and action research. Students specialize in an area for their dissertation research. |
