*Please DO NOT apply for financial
aid until you are accepted into the Educational Leadership Program.
**
To apply for a student loan, complete a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
* The Federal Processor e-mails the Student Aid Report (SAR) back
to the student and the information is also transmitted on-line to
the UCLA Financial Aid Office (this takes about three weeks).
* You will receive an electronic Financial Aid Notification (eFAN)
via email. The eFAN will allow you to decline or accept full or partial loan amounts. Please follow instruction on the eFAN to complete a Master Profissory Note. You will be notified via e-mail when a new eFAN and any other financial
aid communications are ready for your review. In preparation for
eFANs, please make sure your e-mail address is updated and maintained
through URSA at www.ursa.ucla.edu.
*Bruin Direct is the electronic deposit of
your financial aid posted directly into a personal bank account,
which will allow you to have access to your aid faster, and is more
convenient. If you do not sign up for Bruin Direct a check will be mailed to your mailing address indicated on URSA. If you
are interested in Bruin Direct you can receive more information
and download an application at www.sfs.finance.ucla.edu.
Please allow 30 days for processing.
Students in the Educational Leadership Program
are eligible for Federal Stafford Student Loans (both subsidized
and unsubsidized).
Subsidized loans are available to those who
can demonstrate financial need (the government pays the interest
on the loan while the student is in school). The maximum amount available for subsidized
loans is $8,500 per academic year (July-June).
Unsubsidized loans are not need based (the
government does not pay the interest).
The maximum amount available for Federal Stafford Student Loans is $20,500 per academic year.
Once the eFAN, Loan Debt Management Session, and Master Promissory Note is completed, loan funds will apply quarterly toward tuition and any remaining aid will be refunded via Bruin Direct or mailed to your mailing address.
Repayment begins six months after the student leaves school, or falls below half time status, or withdrawls from the program after disbursement.
Federal Subsidized Loans are need based with no interest while in school.
Federal Unsubsidized Loans are non-need based loans and accrue interest from the day of disbursement.
ELP students are required to take an on-line Loan Debt Management Session before financial aid funds can be
released. Complete the Loan Debt Management Session at http://www.loans.ucla.edu/dms.html, if you have any questions regarding the Loan Debt Management Session or status of your session, contact Student Loan Services (310) 825-9864.
